CQ’s best season for family photos

by | Jun 26, 2024

While in other parts of the world winter signals a time to hibernate, central Queenslanders can finally celebrate knowing we can walk outside without dreaming of air-con or the pool.

Gone are the days where dad has to worry about the sweat marks on his shirt or any concern the kids and toddlers will be crazy tired by sunset.

And if that doesn’t sell you, than I hope the chance to wear those gorgeous leather boots in the cupboard does!

Early sunset and late sunrise

If you have toddlers or little ones, winter is the perfect time to get them outdoors for a sunrise or sunset session.

As sunset is earlier and sunrise later, it won’t ruin their normal dinner or bedtime and they can still sleep in and feel ready to have some fun at their session.

If you’ve ever worried about your kids feeling tired and cranky at the end of the day, booking a session at this time of year will definitely help.

A boy and girl hold hands as they jump on a beach with a giant black rock behind them as the sun streams in.

Winter styling

The benefit of having a winter photography session is you can layer up a lot more, which gives your portraits added interest and texture.

Think leather boots, warm knitted cardigans, ribbed stockings or long socks, corduroy overalls, beanies and scarves, plus warm autumn tones.

Some of my favourite stores for winter outfits for the kids include Jamie Kay, Little Clothing Co. and Miann and Co.

Winter means cosy indoor sessions

There’s something about creating memories together by cosying up in front of the fire and toasting marshmellows with the kids.

Home sessions can be a really beautiful way of incorporating more of your everyday life into your family portraits.

It’s not just about pretty pictures but showing all the little moments that make up your family’s life right now.

The light is amazing for winter family photos

Did you know that cooler weather brings bolder colours, softer light and more brilliant skies?

When there’s less humidity in the air, less light is scattered resulting in more vibrant sunsets and sunrises.

It’s a beautiful opportunity to create a core memory with the kids and watch the first or last light of the day together.

What? We’re already halfway through 2024?

If you’re anything like me, you might be having a hard time believing we’re already halfway through the year.

Every year, I book my family in for photos because it reminds me of just how quickly the kids are growing up and I know the opportunity to capture them is running out.

I have limited availably for the remainder of the year, so if you’d love to have your family captured in 2024, please get in touch.
