FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m sure you’ve got an idea of what a family or newborn photo session is supposed to look like…but I’m here to tell you, I provide an experience that’s so much more.

Our session is about creating images together that show how you laugh, how you play, how you love.

Booking

I'm sold. How can I book?

Head over to my contact page, fill out the form and I’ll call you to work out a plan. Include as much detail as you’d like in that form – it helps me to make sure your session is exactly how you imagined (only better).

I've booked. Now what?

Yay! I’ll send you a questionnaire and a contract to make sure we’re all on the same page. The questionnaire helps me to get to know you a little better and start the conversation rolling between us.

You’ll also pay a $150 session fee to secure your date. This is a non-refundable fee that covers the planning of your session, the session itself and your design appointment.

I’ll call to have a chat and narrow down the plan. You can let me know what kind of session you’d like and we can go from there. This also helps us both get to know one another.

We’ll also talk about where you plan to display your photographs in your home. You can even send me a photo of the wall and I can design something that will suit your home. That way if you’re having a hard time imagining it, you can see it online before you place your order.

How can I pay?

Thanks so much for choosing me to document your family or new little addition. Payment is via bank transfer or credit card. I’ll send you the details once you’ve booked.

A $150 non-refundable booking fee is due at time of booking. You don’t pay anything else until you’ve had your session, seen your photos and absolutely love your images. Then it’s just a matter of picking which package you want and what wall collections.

I also offer payment plans.

Family session details

Where should we have our session?

That’s totally up to you.

The best place to shoot is somewhere you feel comfortable…whether that’s at home, doing the bushwalk you always do as a family or your favourite coffee spot. I think your images will mean more to you if the location is part of who you are.

Still not sure? I’m happy to brainstorm with you to find the perfect spot.

What do I wear?

While I don’t believe in going out and buying a whole new wardrobe (although it’s a great excuse if you want to ;)), it’s great to think about what you’re going to wear before your session because it sets the tone for your photographs.

It also ensures we create images that will look beautiful on the wall and will suit the colours in your home.

I send you detailed styling advice upon booking and love to see what you plan to wear before your session, so feel free to text me a picture.

What time should we meet?

If you haven’t seen a person do a happy dance over the golden morning light or that last slither of sunshine in the late afternoon, you’re about to witness it. I seriously get so excited about light!

The best time of day for outdoor sessions is at dawn (for the early birds), or late in the afternoon, about an hour before sunset.

If you’d prefer an indoor session, then mid-morning or mid-afternoon is fine.

Newborns can be at anytime of day but it’s best to get them when they’re most settled and when their parents are feeling refreshed (well as refreshed as you can be with a new baby ;)).

It's a bad time for my kids. How can I keep them happy?

Often parents worry how their children will go at a sunset session because of the time of day.

I’ve found that parents are the ones who set the tone for the whole gang. Forget that someone forgot to iron their shirt, or the kids have already taken their shoes off and just look at it for what it is….your family right now. If the adults stay cool, calm and collected, your cheeky monkeys will reflect that too.

If there is a meltdown in the middle of the session, we’ll just take a break, play a game, take a few deep breaths until everyone is feeling like themselves again. Some of the best images can come from moments when someone needed a hug, so don’t worry, this is what I love to capture – honest connection.

If your little one is having a hard time, please don’t focus on the negative or ask your child to look at the camera and smile. Instead just spend this beautiful time with them and let me take care of the rest. With three kids of my own, I’ve had a lot of experience at drawing out their personalities, no matter their mood.

What happens during the session?

If super chilled is what you’re after, then I think we’ll be a great fit. Each session runs a little differently, depending on the family.  I’m not a fan of everyone looking at the camera but we’ll grab a couple of those shots to begin with and then it’s really just about giving you small prompts to help you interact with your family in a way that feels totally normal.

Don’t love having your photo taken? That’s not a problem. After years of putting people at ease behind the microphone (former journo life) or convincing my reluctant husband to let me take photos of him and the kids, I have a few tricks up my sleeve to help you feel like yourselves. I’m also totally ok with embarassing myself if it means your kids crack a cheeky grin.

Newborn session details

I'm having a baby. When can I book with you?

Firstly, congratulations! I love capturing new little bubbas in those first days. You can book your session as early as you want.

Simply click on my contact page and fill out the form. Let me know when your baby is due, so I have some idea of when our session might be, and I’ll be in touch.

Have you ever thought about a maternity session? When I was pregnant, I didn’t feel ‘great’ and only took a few iphone photos in the bathroom mirror. Now I really wish I had some to look back on – knowing I’ll never have that experience again.

If you book a maternity and newborn session at the same time, you only pay one session fee. Which means you essentailly get a session for free!

Where should we have our session?

It really is amazing how quickly babies change, even in that first week. If you’ve had a hospital birth, I can pop in at a time that works for you to document those very first snuggles. If you’d rather have them at home, that’s totally ok too.

If it’s your first baby, and you’re not sure what to expect, that’s ok. It can be tough in the beginning, with lots of tears (yours, and sometimes baby ;). But it’s a beautiful time to remember, I promise.

My style is about documenting those early days for you – there’s no posing. We can capture feeding (however that looks for you), bathtime and snuggles. We can capture skin-on-skin with mum and dad if that’s something you want to remember or meeting the siblings.

It’s really about the kind of images you want and the memories you want to remember.

What's the best time?

The best time for a newborn shoot is always at a time of day when mum and baby are happiest (so just let me know). It generally helps to have baby fed and changed before I arrive but sometimes they just won’t settle and that’s ok. We’ll just get more shots of all the cuddles.

What do I wear?

Whatever you’re most comfortable in, you just had a baby. If you want to feel good and wear something special, perfect. But if your nightie is about all you can manage on the day, then that’s totally cool too.

If you’d like to dress baby in a special outfit, it’s totally up to you. Simple is generally better – think soft, neutral tones. If you have a pretty wrap of your own that you’d like to use, or a blanket that has been handed down, please feel free to use it.

If you’re a first time mum and need help wrapping your baby (or if you were anything like me and feeling a little nervous about changing baby’s nappy) I’m happy to help where needed. I aim to make the whole process as enjoyable as possible.

I’ll be guided by you and what feels right for you in the moment.

I also give you a lots of styling advice once you’ve booked and am happy to help plan your outfit if you want to send through photos of what you have in mind.

Can siblings be included?

Some of my favourite photos are of my two older children meeting their new sibling. It’s such a special moment and one you won’t want to forget.

If you’re having photos taken in hospital, it’s best to have someone on hand to wrangle the kids when it starts to feel a little chaotic. That way we can still get some calm, quiet moments with the parents and baby.

If your session is being held at home, then it’s all just about capturing daily life – which includes the chaos that comes with siblings.

Have you had your whooping cough and Covid vaccine?

Most definitely. I am up-to-date with my whooping cough, Covid and flu vaccines. I also wear a mask during your session. I believe in placing babies safety above all else.

What if…

I'm sick or the photographer is sick?

Life happens and sometimes when you least expect it. If any of your party are unwell then we can reschedule. The same goes if I’m unable to make it due to illness in my family.

Sometimes notice is just not possible but please get in touch earlier rather than later if it looks like someone is going downhill.

We're running late?

If you can aim to be at our chosen location at least 10 minutes before our session, then it saves everyone the stress but that’s not always possible (especially with small children in tow).

If you’ve booked an outdoor session, then time is really critical. I’m very good at working fast but it may mean I’m unable to capture as many images as we’d planned for.

I also have three little people waiting for me at home, so staying longer at a session isn’t always possible.

Please call or message me with an updated ETA as soon as you can and we’ll go from there.

The photographs

You've hung out, I've snapped away. What next?

I really loved meeting you and hanging out with your family! At the end of our session, I’ll head home and jump straight on my computer because I can’t wait to see what we got.

I’ll send you some sneak peaks within 48 hours of your session. The rest of the images will be ready within two weeks (but often it’s much sooner).

We’ll book in your design appointment which is where you can view your images with me for the first time. It’s at this appointment that we design and order your artwork or ablums.

Prints and products are delivered within eight weeks of your session.

How do I receive my photos?

All edited images from your session will be sent to you via a personalised online gallery. Images are easily downloadable to desktop or phone.

If you ordered prints, frames or an album, I’ll arrange to meet you for delivery or you can collect them from my home.

Can I have the RAW files?

RAW files are straight out of the camera and are incredibly large files.

The editing process is just as much a part of my creative vision as the photography itself, so the short answer is no.

You’ll receive high-resolution digital images that have been hand edited. These are the best images from your session and are ready to be printed or blown up and framed.

Do you organise printing?

Before your session, I’ll be asking you lots of questions about where you plan to display your images.

Until you’ve seen what professional printers can do, it’s hard to imagine just how good your photos can look on the wall. Fine art prints come with a 75+ year guarantee, so you can be sure they’ll outlast you and survive for the next generation.

Before your session, we’ll plan out where your artwork is going to go and make sure we get what you want from your session.

You’ll then come to my home to view your images and we’ll design pieces for you while you’re here. Your order will arrive with eight weeks of your session and I’ll be in touch to have it delivered or collected.
