It was 2015 and I had just had my first baby.
I was sitting in our front yard on a hay bale, breastfeeding my newborn, as friends carried our furniture out of our house. We were leaving Rockhampton and for some reason, we thought it was a good idea to do it when our baby was just 10 days old.
I enquired about having photos but I was learning to deal with sleep deprivation, suffering from anxiety (I don’t think the move helped) and learning how to get out of the house with a baby in tow (it took me weeks because she hated the car and the pram).

Book the newborn photos
I was so desperate to have the time captured, that I set up a tripod with my camera and managed to capture some pretty average portraits of the three of us.
But at least it was captured right?
If I could go back in time and tell myself anything, it would be…go gently with yourself – you’re doing the best you can and it will get easier.
AND, just book the photos. You’ll never get this time back again and it doesn’t have to be hard.

The Studio – Rockhampton newborn photography
Why am I telling you all this? Because this whole saga is why I created an incredible experience for my families in my newborn photography studio.
I know how stressful, exhausting and overwhelming those first days with your baby are but I don’t want newborn photos to feel like another thing you have to worry about.
That’s why I guide my families EVERY step of the way. From planning your session before baby arrives, getting to know one another during your maternity session, providing advice on what to wear, and the studio has plenty of wraps, nappies and outfits for your baby, so you don’t need to bring a thing.

It’s a chance for you to slow down with your baby, create portraits that feel like the love you have for them and allow you to step out of that whirlwind of visitors, endless washing and sleepless nights, and just be.
It’s a chance for you to exist in the portraits with your littlest love too.
As your children grow, they’ll want to see you there with them – see how you loved them, how you held them, how it felt like the most life changing moment of your life to meet them.

And you’ll do all this with someone who has walked that path before you.
Someone who understands that you currently feel like your body will never feel ‘normal’ again, who knows how many hours a day are spent feeding, changing nappies and trying to stay sane on three hours sleep.
Every person’s postpartum experience is unique. I’ll gently guide you during the session, take breaks for feeding and changes when needed and give you the space to appreciate all that you have achieved.
And because I know how precious and delicate these early days are, I’ve made sure the studio isn’t just beautiful and relaxing—but safe and supportive too.

Newborn photos that are honest, emotional and timeless
Whether it’s your first baby or your fourth, those first weeks blur by in a mix of emotions, milestones and bleary-eyed wonder. My goal is to help you slow it all down, if only for a moment.
When you walk into the studio, I want you to feel held—just like you’re holding your baby. Everything is taken care of. All you need to do is show up, soak in the moment, and know that I’ll be there to gently guide you through every step.
You’ll walk away with portraits that feel honest, emotional and timeless. The kind of photos your child will one day hold in their hands and say, “That was us. That was love.”

That photo I took with a tripod all those years ago? I still have it. It means the world to me. Now, I get to give that gift—only more beautiful and lasting—to other families.
If you’re hoping to slow time, even for a moment, I’d be honoured to help you do that in my studio.
