Why photographer’s say they tell your story…

“I’m so excited Nanna,” my daughter said to my mother-in-law as she drove my two children into town to meet their baby brother.

Nine months is a long time for anyone but when you’re four, it’s an eternity. Talk of the baby and who will look after you when mum and dad are at the hospital is a conversation had countless times.

When the moment finally arrives, it’s not only a truely magical moment for your children but for you too. Witnessing your little ones become ‘big sister’ or ‘big brother’ overnight suddenly makes them seem so much older in an instant.

The family dynamic is changed forever and it’s a really amazing time to document – whether it’s your first baby or third.

These kinds of sessions really tell the story of the beginning of this person’s life. The love that surrounded them, their first home, first cuddles with siblings and getting to know those around them.

This session with the Houghton’s was very relaxed. Obviously with a new baby in the house, everyone was a little tired, big brother and sister were full of beans (so we stopped for snacks, a jump on the trampoline and a bit of running around)…but that’s life with three kids isn’t it!? And it was what made this session so perfect for an album.

It tells their whole story. For years to come, as they open their linen-covered book, it will spark countless memories and stories from this sacred time. Yes I said sacred! Because while it feels like you’re in the trenches at the time, in an instant, they’re climbing up draws, then running down the hallway and climbing trees. You’re forming who these people will be in years to come!

And for parents, it tells the story of how much your hands were full of love. Days filled with hectic schedules, school drop-offs and cleaning up spills but also moments where you’re laughing out loud at the story your three-year-old just told you.

Take the time to cherish what you have right in front of you. This season of life is so fleeting, don’t blink and miss it.
